While Trump promised official documentation for the holidays, he clarified that Americans will not have the day off work.

May 8 is recognized as Victory in Europe Day in some European countries, commemorating the WWII victory.

Trump's announcement of the new holidays is not the first time he has proposed changes to existing federal holidays.

Federal holidays, including their names, are determined through the legislative process in Congress.

Veterans Day is one of the 12 federal holidays in 2025, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
