An Ohio sheriff's deputy near the University of Cincinnati was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by the father of a teenager who was shot and killed by authorities the day before, according to police.

The unidentified Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy was hit around 1 p.m. near the university during a graduation ceremony.

The deputy, directing traffic at an intersection, was struck by the vehicle, as confirmed by Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge during a news conference. The deputy was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge reported the tragic incident involving a Hamilton County deputy being fatally struck by a vehicle on Friday.
The deputy's identity has not been released. Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey described him as a "wonderful and dedicated" individual.
"I knew the man, and I knew what a tremendous, tremendous person he is and what a tremendous loss we have all suffered," she said.
The deputy had retired a few months prior but continued working as a "special deputy," according to the sheriff.
The father of an 18-year-old, who was shot and killed by Cincinnati police the previous day, was driving the vehicle that struck the deputy, as per authorities. He was also transported to a hospital.
During a commencement ceremony, UC President Neville Pinto called for a moment of silence to honor the fallen deputy in his opening remarks.
"Before we get started, sadly, I have to report an incident that occurred today with a Hamilton County deputy sheriff on Martin Luther King Drive," Pinto said. "It was a very serious incident, and I would like to ask for a moment of silence to respect this officer."
The Cincinnati Police Department is leading the investigation into the deputy's tragic death.
The suspect's son was shot and killed by Cincinnati police officers during a brief encounter while chasing four suspected car thieves. The incident unfolded when officers responded to a stolen Kia SUV from Edgewood, Kentucky. As the suspects fled, one suspect pointed a handgun at an officer with an extended magazine, prompting the officer to fire back, fatally striking the teen.
Two suspects were apprehended, while one remains at large.
